Two Plane Swing
In golf there are two different kinds of swing styles, the one plane swing and the two plane swing. Although sometimes it’s are hard to tell them apart they are completely different.
They are so different that if you try to incorporate different aspects of both swing styles to your own swing you will not be successful at hitting the ball consistently if at all.
The main different between the two swings is that in the one plane swing your shoulders and arms swing on the same plane, where in the two plane swing they swing on a different plane.

The two plane golf swing is the most common among golfers on the tour, and requires a lot less upper body strength and flexibility. This is one reason the one plane golf swing is seen in many younger players where they have more of an ability to hit the different positions of that kind of swing.
In this article I will discuss the basic technique of the two plane golf swing.
However, if you want a complete in depth guide on both the one and two plane swings I would highly suggest taking a look at Professional golfer Jim Hardy’s The Plane Truth of Golfers. Two Plane Swing Technique
- The grip should be a neutral to weaker grip (Visit Proper golf grip for more detail)
- At address you want to stand with a fairly upright spine angle, stand taller than that of the one plane swing.
- During the backswing you want to turn your shoulders and hips fairly level. Where your arms will swing in a V shape up above your right shoulder.
- Make sure you do not swing your arms up without turning your body, this will cause your swing to be to steep, where if you turn your body to fast for your arms your swing will be flatter. Make sure your body and arms are working together just on different planes.
- During downswing make sure that when your body turns your arms turn with it at the same time. The club should be brought down right along your right side.
- During the follow through you are doing to same motion as in your back swing where your body will turn level and your arms swing up completing the V motion.
